Mid-May Progress

Thank you so much for your continued prayers! God is so good–much has been accomplished so far this month!

All the stonework is up, (PRAISE THE LORD!!!) so now we are cleaning the stones that got messed up in the process and fortifying some gaps with extra mortar. Please pray for us as we continue this process, and as the flooring gets finished up. We hope to have electricity and plumbing soon, as well.

We are expecting the excavators soon to finish up with grading, so hopefully we can begin landscaping and get the parking lot done. Please continue to pray for safety for our volunteers and professional workers, good weather, and His continued providence! Thank you so much!

The Beacon May 2012

\"May-12-1\" \"May-12-2\"The Miller Family–Pastor Terry, Tammy, Brian, Devan, & Brannon–have moved up to Rhode Island to minister with us. Pastor Terry will serve as our associate pastor, and Tammy will serve in various ministries including music, discipleship, and teaching. Together they will work with our teens. Their sons Brannon & Devan will help with music and audio, as well. They will be a tremendous blessing to this ministry!! (Brian and Jonathan are headed to work at Trinity Camp in AL for the summer and then to Southeastern FWB College this fall.)

At our church outing to Wilson Park, we played volleyball, flag football, whiffle ball, and other games as the little kids played at the playground. Some of the folks just enjoyed sitting and talking togher. A picnic lunch of charcoal-girlled hot dogs, pasta salad, chips, cookies, and salad & fruit made the day perfect!

Tommy & Sue Goodfellow from Gateway FWB Church are here to help again! We are VERY thankful! What a blessing!

Stone work is almost complete. Tile is all laid, awaiting the return of Gary Wilson from Lynchburg, VA for grout and carpet completion. Ceiling tiles are hung and trim is getting put up. We are so thankful for your continued prayers for safety for our volunteers and professional workers and for warm, dry weather!

Special Thanks To Gary Wilson for coming to help with flooring!

Praise God for His faithfulness to provide for every need! Prayer Requests:

Church Outing to Wilson Park

We had a great time after church on Sunday, May 6, 2012!  Grilled hot dogs, chips, macaroni & regular salad with yummy cookies and krispy treats was our picnic lunch.  Then we played volleyball, whiffle ball, and flag football.  Although the afternoon began overcast & chilly, the sun came out and we all warmed up after a while.  What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

May Progress

God is so good!  So much is being accomplished.  Every day it seems He is providing in ways we couldn\’t have imagined!  Please pray for the following to be accomplished this month:

  1. Stonework finished.
  2. Flooring finished.
  3. Trim work finished.
  4. Electrical work finished.
  5. Kitchen installed.
  6. Bathrooms installed.
  7. Heating, AC, and Sound System installed.
  8. Excavation finished.
  9. Parking Lot and lights installed.
  10. Landscaping done.

Thank you so much for continued prayers!!!  Please continue to pray for good weather and safety for all the workers!

April Ham Fellowship

After our worship service, we enjoyed a delicious ham dinner, and chicken, too.  Yummy sides like homemade baked beans and green bean cassarole, anitpasta salad and gourmet cupcakes, an Allie\’s doughnut cake, and much more.  We really love food, but we especially love to sit together and fellowship.  This is also our first fellowship with the Miller family.  Pastor Terry Miller has moved up here with his family (wife, Tammy, and sons, Brian, Brannon, & Devan) to join us in ministry as the Associate Pastor.  Praise the Lord!  We are so thankful to welcome them!  They will work with the teens, assist in discipleship and other ministries, teach Sunday School, and serve as musicians (pictured are their boys in our newly formed \”bluegrass band\” playing the offertory with Frank Garzilli on Mandolin and Billy Reynolds on guitar.  Brannon plays bass guitar and Brian plays banjo.)

Mid-April Progress

Thank you for your continued prayers for the following to be accomplished this month:

  1. Stone work complete
  2. All the doors hung (they are almost done!)
  3. All the paint done (all but the trim is DONE!)
  4. All the trim work put on and painted
  5. Drop ceiling hung (it\’s hung–just needs the tiles in after the vents are installed)
  6. Floors installed

And please continue to pray for warmer days (God is answering that prayer, as well! Today was 80 degrees and BEAUTIFUL) and safety for all the volunteers and hired help.

Easter Egg Hunt

After a fun Easter Egg Hunt, Christy sat the kids down with a bag of object lessons to tell the Easter Story while they ate some candy.

First of all, she pulled out 2 sticks.  The children quickly recognized them as they formed a cross.   Luke 23:33-34a says  \”And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. Then Jesus said, \”Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.\” After a brief discussion of crucifixion and how Jesus asked God to forgive us all, even while He was dying, we pulled out another object.

Next in the bag was a bottle of cinnamon with some ace bandage for the wrapping of Jesus’ body.  John 19:38-41 \”After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave [him] permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus.  And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.  Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. So there they laid Jesus,\” The children passed the cinnamon around and smelled it. Then we talked about how heavy 100 lbs. of spices would be! We discussed how Joseph and Nicodemus cared for Jesus by asking for His body, carefully preparing it with spices, and wrapping it.  We wondered if, when they had finished, Jesus\’ body looked like a mummy?

A rock came out of the bag next.  As the children passed it around, Christy read Mark 15:46.  \”Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.\”  We talked about how big the rock must have been to block the doorway, and how heavy it would be.

Last of all, there was an empty Easter egg to represent Jesus’ empty tomb. Matthew 28:1-7 \”Now after the Sabbath, as the first [day] of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead [men]. But the angel answered and said to the women, \”Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.\”  Wow!!!! Jesus is alive!  Yay!!!  Notice that the giant rock didn\’t keep Him from getting out when He came back to life.  The angel rolled it away, and He had already gone!

Before we got up from our circle, Christy read John 14:1-3 \”Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father\’s house are many mansions;  if [it were] not [so], I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, [there] you may be also.\”   We talked about how Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins, and that He came back to life on Easter.  Then we talked about how He is making a place for us in Heaven because He wants us to come live with Him someday.  If we ask Jesus to forgive us of our sins and be our Savior from sin, He will take us to Heaven one day!!  Yay!!!  Jesus is preparing a place for us in Heaven, too, so we can be with Him one day if we ask Him to forgive us for our sins!  Yay!!!
